About OTC 2027

OTC, the Offshore Technology Conference, is one of the energy industry's largest conferences and exhibitions for offshore oil, gas and emerging energy technology. People search for it as the OTC conference, OTC Houston or simply the OTC show. Operators, engineers, service companies and equipment makers meet there to review technology, find suppliers and close work.

OTC reported nearly 25,000 attendees at the 2026 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, with nearly 1,000 exhibiting companies and attendees from more than 100 countries (OTC 2026 wrap-up).

Three things change in 2027:

  • A shorter show. OTC 2027 runs three days, May 3–5. The 2026 show ran four, May 4–7.
  • A new name for the same venue. NRG Park became Reliant Park on August 1, 2026. The exhibit hall is the same building OTC used in 2026, now listed as Reliant Center.
  • A second audience. URTeC, the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference, is co-located with OTC for the first time.

The floor rewards substance. Visitors often stop because they want to see how a piece of equipment works or how a system was engineered, so a booth is judged by what it shows and explains, not only by its graphics.

Why OTC Exhibit Builders Need to Plan for an Engineering Floor

Many OTC visitors are engineers and technical buyers. They stop to see how something works, then ask hard questions. That changes what you need from a builder:

  • Equipment shapes the structure. Heavy or oversized pieces need drayage, rigging and placement planned early. OTC's rules let physical equipment exceed the booth-height limit at show management's discretion, but the booth structure itself can't.
  • Explain, don't decorate. Cutaways, scale models, short videos and staff who can talk specs do more than large slogans.
  • Leave room to talk. Buyers and partners book time at OTC. A small enclosed room or a quiet table area keeps a technical discussion going.
  • Three days, not four. OTC 2027 has one fewer exhibition day than the 2026 event. Plan equipment transport, installation and staffing carefully to make the most of the shorter show.

Not every exhibitor needs a large island. A linear booth with one strong product display, a clear back wall and a demo screen can work well for a focused supplier. If you're bringing equipment, ask builders for examples of industrial booths they've built and how they handled weight, power and sight lines.

OTC Houston Dates and Hours for 2027

The OTC Houston dates for 2027 are May 3–5, Monday to Wednesday, at Reliant Park (OTC 2027 event page). Move-in starts Thursday, April 29, 2027 at noon, and every booth must be fully set by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, per OTC's exhibitor resources page. Exhibits are open 10:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on Monday and 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, in Reliant Center, Level 1 (schedule at a glance). OTC hasn't published the dismantling schedule yet, so confirm move-out before you book return freight.

For comparison, the four-day 2026 show mostly ran 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and closed at 2:00 p.m. on its last day, and the park was closed to exhibitors on the Sunday before it. In 2027, move-in runs through Sunday.

OTC lists Reliant Park as the 2027 venue. It's the complex called NRG Park until August 1, 2026, so searches for "OTC NRG Park" lead to the same place. OTC's 2027 schedule puts the exhibition in Reliant Center, Level 1, though a few OTC pages still say NRG Center. Confirm the hall on your booth documents when you plan deliveries and installation.

OTC and URTeC 2027: What the Co-Location Means for Exhibitors

URTeC 2027, the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference, is co-located with OTC at Reliant Park on May 3–5. OTC says the two keep their own technical programs, while attendees get broader access to the exhibition (OTC + URTeC 2027).

What that means for your booth:

  • A wider audience. Shale and unconventional engineers may walk the same floor as offshore buyers. If your products serve both, say so on graphics that read from the aisle.
  • Two messages, one booth. Plan zones or screens that let staff switch between offshore and onshore conversations without changing the booth.
  • A shared venue. Two co-located events may increase competition for freight, labor and move-in windows. Book your builder early and plan freight around the published move-in window, April 29 to May 2.

OTC Exhibitor Timeline, Worked Back from May 3

OTC has published its 2027 space rates, move-in dates and several exhibitor deadlines. Show hours and some service-order deadlines aren't out yet, and OTC's pages give two dates for the final booth payment. The status column shows what's confirmed.

What's Included With an OTC Booth

OTC's 2027 exhibitor pages list what comes with indoor booth space (first-time exhibitors):

  • Standard draping: an 8 ft back wall and 3 ft side rails (linear booths only)
  • One 11 × 17 in identification sign
  • Five exhibitor registrations per 100 sq ft
  • Access to all OTC technical sessions
  • 20 complimentary guest invites, which OTC lists as "4-Day Guest Invites"
  • A listing in the conference program, show app and website
  • One copy of the OTC proceedings
  • 24-hour booth security, plus daily trash removal, carpet vacuuming and booth cleaning each morning

What isn't included matters just as much. OTC lists floor covering (required for every booth), furniture and lighting, electrical power, Wi-Fi, lead retrieval, shipping and drayage, and exhibitor insurance as separate costs (returning exhibitors). Space is assigned by OTC's priority-points system, then first come, first served.

OTC Booth Cost: Space Rates and Who Bills What

An OTC budget has three main parts, and they may all be billed separately. Builders usually quote only the booth itself, so account for all three before comparing proposals.

BillWho bills youTypical costs to budget for
Booth spaceOTCFloor space and the inclusions listed above
Show servicesFreeman, the venue and other official providers (based on 2026)Flooring, furniture, electrical, plumbing, drayage, internet and lead retrieval, as applicable
ExhibitYour exhibit builder and other suppliers, depending on the contractDesign, fabrication or rental, graphics, freight, installation, dismantle and storage, where applicable

These costs may be billed by different parties. Ask each builder to show what's included, what's an estimate and what you'll need to arrange or pay for separately.

What OTC booth space costs in 2027

OTC publishes two 2027 indoor rates: $44 per sq ft through December 18, 2026, and $46 per sq ft from December 19, 2026 (returning exhibitors).

Booth sizeAreaAdvance ($44)Standard ($46)
10 × 10100 sq ft$4,400$4,600
10 × 20200 sq ft$8,800$9,200
20 × 20400 sq ft$17,600$18,400
20 × 30600 sq ft$26,400$27,600
30 × 30900 sq ft$39,600$41,400

These figures cover exhibit space only. OTC also sells indoor hospitality suites at $28,000 (20 × 20), $36,000 (20 × 30) and $55,000 (30 × 30), with carpet, furniture, A/V, signage and one electrical drop included.

What changes the rest of the budget

  • Weight. Drayage is charged by weight. OTC's published 2027 drayage rates are $1.16 per lb at the standard rate and $1.45 per lb after the deadline, so a 2,000 lb shipment would cost $2,320 at the standard rate, before other charges. Machinery has separate rates. See our guide to trade show shipping.
  • Flooring. OTC requires floor covering across the whole booth, so it's a cost even for a simple booth.
  • Build or rent. A reusable custom structure may make sense if you exhibit at several energy shows and can adapt the booth to different spaces. A rental can lower the upfront cost for a one-off show, but compare the full cost of graphics, freight, installation, dismantle and storage.
  • Timing. Booking space at the published advance rate lowers your space cost. Ordering show services before their discount deadlines may also save money; confirm the 2027 dates and rates in the Exhibitor Service Kit.

If you're weighing a full custom structure, see how custom trade show booths are usually priced and built, and use our trade show budget planning guide for the full picture.

OTC Booth Rules: Heights, Hanging Signs and Multi-Level Booths

These are OTC's 2027 booth specifications, published on its exhibitor resources page. The height and sign limits are the same as in 2026. Have your builder mark heights on the drawing for your booth type before you approve the design.

Booth typeMaximum heightHanging signs
Linear (inline)8 ft 3 in, rear half of the booth only; 4 ft in the front halfNot allowed
Perimeter (backs onto a hall wall)12 ft, rear half only; 4 ft in the front halfNot allowed
Peninsula or split island (20 × 20 and larger)16 ft in all areasOnly on booths of 20 × 30 (600 sq ft) or larger, up to 25 ft to the top of the sign
Walk-through (20 × 20 and larger)16 ft in all areasOnly on booths of 20 × 30 or larger, up to 25 ft
Island (20 × 20 and larger, aisles on four sides)25 ft, though the building may limit some spaces. Check the floor planAllowed, up to 25 ft to the top of the sign

Three more rules worth briefing your builder on:

  • Equipment can go higher. Physical equipment may exceed the height limit at OTC's discretion, but the booth structure can't. In linear booths, graphics on equipment still follow the linear limits.
  • Peninsula signs need a setback. Double-sided signs, logos and graphics must sit 10 ft back from the shared back wall.
  • Multi-level booths need an engineer. Double-deck booths need a registered engineer's certification, and the multi-level form must reach the fire marshal, with a copy to OTC, by March 18, 2027. Decks over 300 sq ft need two exit stairs.

OTC Booth Builders, Labor and Move-In at Reliant Park

OTC's 2027 exhibitor resources page confirms the main contractor and labor terms. Dismantling hours and some service-order details are still to come.

  • Freeman is the general services contractor for 2027, and the exclusive provider for drayage and material and machinery handling.
  • Some services are exclusive. Electrical, plumbing, extra booth cleaning and security go through Reliant, the venue. Catering (Aramark), internet (Smart City), lead retrieval (Maritz) and plants (Convention Plant Creations) also have exclusive providers.
  • Outside builders register as EACs. An exhibitor-appointed contractor must submit the EAC agreement by March 18, 2027, provide proof of insurance and pay a $500 registration fee.
  • Insurance is required for every exhibitor: at least $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate in general liability, plus $1 million in auto liability if you bring vehicles.
  • Early teardown is fined. Dismantling before the show closes carries a $1,000 fine and a 10-point priority deduction, and can cost future participation.

Ask your builder whether it has worked at this venue before and how it will handle EAC registration, insurance and move-in timing. No one under 18 is allowed on the floor during move-in or move-out. Questions go to OTC at otc.events@otcnet.org.

OTC Booth Design: Custom Build or Booth Rental

Whether an OTC booth rental or a custom build fits depends on how often you exhibit, what equipment you show and how many meetings you run.

Your situationUsually the better fitWhy
You show large equipment on an islandA custom or rental island designed around the equipmentWeight, power and sight lines come first
You exhibit at several energy shows a yearA custom build you own and reuseWorth it if the structure can adapt to other booth sizes
OTC is your one big showRental with custom graphicsLower upfront cost and nothing to store. Confirm freight, installation and dismantle are included
You're a focused supplier in a linear boothA modular or rental back wall with a demo screenLinear booths are capped at 8 ft 3 in, so clarity beats size

OTC booth design ideas that work for an engineering audience

  • Lead with the problem you solve. One clear line, such as the depth, load or emissions cut your product handles, reads faster than a logo wall.
  • Make the equipment the centerpiece. Light it, label it and leave room for people to walk around it.
  • Plan for two audiences. With URTeC on the same floor, a screen or zone for onshore applications can start conversations you'd otherwise miss.

OTC Floor Plan and Exhibitor List

OTC's interactive 2027 floor plan is live and shows booth availability. As of October 15, 2026, it covers the main indoor hall only. OTC lists exhibitors in its online program, show app and website as space sells, so check the latest version before you finalize your layout.

Once you have a booth number, send your builder a marked-up floor plan showing the aisle-facing sides, neighboring booths and any height limits. Then brief them on three things:

  • Booth type. Linear, peninsula and island booths follow different height and sign rules.
  • Open sides. The sides facing main aisles decide where the equipment and main graphics go.
  • Access. Large equipment needs a clear path from the freight door, so flag its size and weight early.

Questions to Ask Before You Hire an OTC Booth Builder

Send the same questions to every builder you're comparing. The answers tell you more than the renders do. For a wider checklist, see our guide to hiring a trade show booth builder.

  • Have you built industrial or equipment-led booths? Ask for photos and how they handled weight, power and sight lines.
  • What's in your quote, and what isn't? Freight, drayage, installation labor, flooring, graphics, storage and on-site supervision should each be a clear yes or no.
  • Who arranges the show services? Confirm how flooring, electrical, drayage and labor are ordered, and whether your builder or your team handles each order.
  • How does the design meet OTC's height rules? Ask them to mark heights on the drawing for your booth type.
  • Have you installed at Reliant Park (formerly NRG Park)? Recent experience there helps with marshalling and move-in timing.
  • Can we reuse this booth at other energy shows? Ask how the structure adapts to other sizes and what storage costs.

URTeC, the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference, is co-located with OTC in 2027 for the first time. The two keep separate technical programs, and attendees get broader access to the exhibition.

How much does a booth cost at OTC 2027?

Indoor space costs $44 per sq ft through December 18, 2026, and $46 per sq ft from December 19. A 10×10 booth costs $4,400 to $4,600 for space alone, before the booth build, flooring, drayage and other show services.

When is the OTC booth payment deadline?

OTC's pages don't agree yet. The returning-exhibitor page says a 50% deposit is due with the contract and the full balance by December 18, 2026, while the exhibitor resources page lists January 19, 2027 as the final payment deadline. Confirm your date with OTC (otc.events@otcnet.org).

What is included with an OTC booth?

Indoor space includes an 8 ft back drape and 3 ft side rails for linear booths, an 11 × 17 in sign, five exhibitor registrations per 100 sq ft, technical-session access, 20 guest invites, a directory listing, the proceedings and 24-hour security. Flooring is required and costs extra.

How do I find exhibit builders for OTC 2027?

Look for builders who have installed at Reliant Park and built equipment-led booths. Compare proposals against the same brief so you can judge layout, services and costs consistently. Exhibitorly helps you explore OTC booth builders' portfolios and request proposals.

How tall can my OTC booth be?

Under OTC's 2027 booth specifications, linear booths can reach 8 ft 3 in in the rear half, perimeter booths 12 ft, peninsulas 16 ft and islands 25 ft, though the building limits some island spaces.

Can I hang a sign over my OTC booth?

Under the 2027 rules, yes for islands, and for peninsula or walk-through booths of 20 × 30 or larger, up to 25 ft to the top of the sign. Hanging signs aren't allowed over linear booths.

Can I use my own exhibit builder at OTC?

Yes. Outside builders register as exhibitor-appointed contractors: the EAC agreement is due March 18, 2027, with proof of insurance and a $500 fee. Some services, such as electrical and drayage, must go through OTC's exclusive providers.

How many people attend OTC?

OTC reported nearly 25,000 attendees and nearly 1,000 exhibiting companies in Houston in 2026, with attendees from more than 100 countries. It hasn't published 2027 figures. For attendee registration, see OTC's official site.

Where can I find the OTC 2027 floor plan and exhibitor list?

OTC's interactive 2027 floor plan is live on its exhibitor pages and shows available booths. OTC lists exhibitors in its online program, show app and website as space sells, so check there for the latest version.

Should I rent or build a custom booth for OTC?

Rent if OTC is your one big show of the year. Build custom if you exhibit at several energy shows and can reuse the structure. If you're showing large equipment, design the booth around it either way.
