About FDIC International 2027
FDIC International, the Fire Department Instructors Conference, is a yearly training conference and exhibition for the fire and rescue service. It was first held in 1929 and has been in Indianapolis since 1998 (Wikipedia). In 2025 it drew more than 37,000 attendees and 850+ exhibitors, and the 2026 exhibition had 800+ exhibitors (International Fire & Safety Journal).
The show runs a full week, but the exhibition doesn't. Workshops and hands-on training start on April 12. The exhibit halls are open only April 14–16. Plan your booth staffing around those three days.

FDIC doesn't publish booth space prices online. Its sales team quotes them, and the 2027 exhibitor manual, with service prices, is still "coming soon" (exhibitor center).
Your total exhibit cost will depend heavily on booth size, design, flooring, electrical, internet, freight, material handling, and any apparatus or equipment you display. Ask builders to separate each of these costs in their quotes. If you're deciding between a rental system and a custom build, see our guides to trade show booth rentals and custom trade show booths.
What Your FDIC Booth Space Includes
The latest public exhibitor FAQ is from 2024, so treat these details as historical guidance until the 2027 exhibitor manual is released. In that FAQ, booth space included pipe and drape for every booth except islands. Electric and internet were ordered separately through the convention center (exhibitor FAQ).
Flooring Is Required in Most Areas
Flooring is required and not included, with some exceptions. Booths in the Capitol Corridor, Hoosier Corridor, Wabash West Corridor and the LOS Connector, and outdoor exhibitors, didn't need to provide it (2024 FAQ). The 2027 rule may differ. Check which area your booth is in before you order flooring.
Other FDIC International Booth Costs to Budget For
The booth itself, rented or owned
Flooring, unless your area is exempt
Electrical and internet
Freight and material handling
Moving and placing apparatus or heavy equipment
Extra badges, if your team is large
Hotel rooms (housing details are "coming soon")
Ask each FDIC International booth builder to price these lines separately. This makes it much easier to compare quotes and spot costs that one builder may have bundled or left out.
FDIC notes that dates and times may change. The last day is a half day, so plan key meetings for Wednesday and Thursday.
FDIC Floor Plan: Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium and Outdoor Exhibits
The FDIC 2027 floor plan is live. The exhibition spreads across the Indiana Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium, the LOS Connector Hall, the Capitol Corridor and an outdoor exhibit and demo area (fdic.com).
Where your booth sits changes your hours, your flooring needs and how you move freight. Confirm the area with your builder before design starts, and ask them to quote for your actual exhibit location rather than assuming every FDIC International booth has the same setup requirements.
Indiana Convention Center Labor Rules for FDIC Booths
The Indiana Convention Center lets exhibitors do much of their own booth work. The venue says your own full-time employees can set up your booth (ICCLOS booth information). Under the venue's labor requirements, your staff can also hang signs that attach to your own booth, install your own lighting, and connect equipment to the venue's utilities (ICC labor requirements).
Some work has to go through others:
Freight moves and extra setup help: the show's decorator
Motorized equipment: hired through the decorator or the venue
In the 2024 exhibitor FAQ, exhibitors could hand-carry their own materials, but dollies, flat trucks and other mechanical equipment weren't allowed. The 2027 rule may differ.
FDIC International Booth Rules
FDIC's 2027 rules will be in the exhibitor manual. Until it's out, ask your builder to confirm:
Height limits for your booth type and area
Rules for displaying apparatus and vehicles (fuel, batteries, placement)
Rules for outdoor exhibits and live demos
Your move-in and move-out times, and staging lot instructions
Insurance: every exhibitor must send a certificate of insurance (2024 FAQ)
Sampling, Food and Sales at FDIC
Sodexo Live! has exclusive food and drink rights at the venue. Sampling or cooking needs registration with the Marion County Health Department (ICCLOS).
In 2024, drink samples were limited to 2 oz and food to bite-size portions of 2 oz or less. The 2027 rule may differ.
Selling on site means registering with the Indiana Department of Revenue for sales tax (7%).
Booth Staff Badges
In 2024, each booth got 5 badges for the first 100 sq ft, 3 for each extra 100 sq ft up to 3,000 sq ft, and 1 for each 100 sq ft beyond that. The 2027 allowance may differ.
Using Your Own FDIC International Trade Show Contractor
Confirm the official 2027 decorator in the exhibitor manual before you select a builder.
Exhibitors can use an Exhibitor Appointed Contractor (EAC), subject to FDIC's 2027 requirements. Before you sign, ask your builder to confirm they can meet the EAC forms, insurance and deadlines.

FDIC International Booth Design Tips
Plan around the apparatus. If you're showing vehicles or large equipment, place them first and design the rest of the booth around them.
Separate demos from conversations. Hands-on gear draws a crowd. Keep a quieter spot where buyers can talk about specs, pricing and departmental budgets.
Design for your exhibit area. Hours, flooring and freight differ between the Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium, the corridors and the outdoor area.
Plan for hand carry. No dollies or carts were allowed for hand-carried items in 2024, so pack in pieces one person can carry.
Order power and internet early. Live demos need the right power in the right place.
First FDIC, or a small inline booth? A rental can lower your upfront cost while you learn what works.
Doing several fire, EMS and safety shows a year? Modular trade show booths may make sense if you plan to reuse the system across shows.
Island with apparatus or a two-story build? A custom build may give you more flexibility, particularly when the booth needs to accommodate large equipment, rigging or specialized structures.
What to Ask an FDIC International Exhibit Builder
When comparing FDIC International exhibit builders, ask each one:
Have you built at the Indiana Convention Center or Lucas Oil Stadium for FDIC?
Can we see photos of fire, EMS or public safety booths you've built?
What can our own staff set up, and what will your crew do?
How will you coordinate apparatus and heavy-equipment moves with the show's decorator?
Can you meet the 2027 EAC forms, insurance and deadlines?
Where is the booth built and stored, and what does freight to Indianapolis cost?
Will you price each line separately?
